Green Living. Green Dying: More People Purchasing Eco-Friendly Funeral Options

Denver, CO (PRWEB) April 19, 2011

Une Belle Vie Memorial Urns, LLC, a Denver, Colo. ? based cremation urn company, announced the launch of their new line of fully biodegradable urns in appreciation and celebration of Earth Day.

?As concerns about the environment and over population rise in this country and across the world, people are beginning to look at preserving the earth in every possible aspect of their lifestyle, including death,? said Melody Jamali, president of Une Belle Vie Memorial Urns. ?And, when you look at the financial and environmental cost of traditional burials, having a green funeral option makes good, sound sense.?

Currently, the funeral industry buries 30 million board feet of wood a year, 90,000 tons of steel, 1,636,000 tons of reinforced concrete and more than 800,000 gallons of toxic embalming fluid into the ground (source: Naturalburial.org). With more than 22,500 cemeteries in the U.S, traditional burials also bring up space concerns.

If these biodegradable urns are buried in the ground like a traditional funeral or put in water such as a burial at sea, they can fully dissolve very quickly. Yet, in a normal, temperature-controlled environment such as a house, a biodegradable urn can last for quite some time.

Une Belle Vie?s current collection of biodegradable urns ranges from traditional-shaped cremation urns made of clay, organic proteins and sand, to wooden boxes void of toxic finishes and plastic or metal hinges. Une Belle Vie also has a selection of simple, baked clay vessels. They are available in a variety of sizes, for both humans and pets, and range in price from $ 60-$ 205.
