IGEL Launches a Virtual Universal Desktop Evaluation Tool

Ft. Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) April 30, 2009

IGEL Technology, the world's third largest thin client vendor (2008 by revenue, IDC), today introduced a virtualized version of its new Universal Desktop Linux-based firmware, which provides organizations with a no cost and risk-free way to evaluate the look and feel of IGEL's Universal Desktops. IGEL's virtualized thin client will include a full firmware version of IGEL's advanced pack -- with the exception of the Ericom PowerTerm Terminal emulation offering -- and organizations will have the ability to evaluate the product on a PC or notebook test system.

"The virtual Universal Desktop allows customers to test out IGEL's thin client firmware at no cost, which is especially useful for recession constrained organizations that can't afford to go through a complete technology refresh but are still interested in evaluating new products that can help them reduce IT costs," said Andrew Chamber, sales manager, IGEL Technology. "IGEL's virtual Universal Desktop is a fast and free way for companies to get in first contact with our Linux-based thin client OS, and if the customers are satisfied with this first evaluation, they can then order a free IGEL kit which will allow them to test out what the thin client firmware GUI and features will look like without having to purchase the hardware first."

The virtual Universal Desktop will run in VMplayer on top of a Windows or Linux operating system. Customers will experience many benefits of the Universal Desktop, such as a rich user experience that is indistinguishable from a PC, and will have access to a variety of digital services, local software tools (e.g. a Firefox browser, media player or a SAP GUI), as well as protocol clients like RDP, ICA, VDM, NX and X11R6.
